“It’s Always Something!”

Time passes much too quickly can’t see all there is – to see,                                                                                                             on my life long journey to my home….  JS

Gilda Radner, Roseanne Roseannadanna

Life’s a rush!  Sometimes it seems there aren’t enough hours in the day to deal with everything life throws our way. It never fails, just when we think we’ve finally got a handle on things something else comes along to set us back again! It never fails. I’m reminded of  comic Gilda Radner’s classic characters, Rosanne Roseanadanna, back in the early years of Saturday Night Live, who was fond of saying, “It just goes to show you, it’s always something! If it ain’t one thing, it’s another.” Now ain’t that the truth!

I just don’t understand why our journey down life’s highway can’t be a smooth ride along a nicely paved four lane expressway instead of a rough and jerky ride on a single lane road filled with ruts, potholes, speed bumps and an occasional detour or two, with only short patches of smooth. It just don’t seem right. Our life trek is no picnic. It’s always something! It’s not easy trying to tip-toe our way through life, painstakingly trying to avoid the hazards and pitfalls that lay ahead. I truly wish someone could give me a reasonable explanation as to why this happens to us. And it does happen to all of us at some time or other, and it happens to some of us more often than others. Let’s face it,  shit happens, it’s unavoidable and there will be times when we’re caught off guard by some incident, series of events or obstacle life happens to throw our way and there isn’t a damn thing we can do to avoid that avalanche of crap that suddenly blocks our pathway.

Is it always fair? Hell no. But no one ever said life is fair. Is it always our fault? No again. Like I said sometimes things happen that we can’t foresee and have no control over, they simply happen. There is no rhyme or reason.  Yeah it always seems that just when things are beginning to go well, and we’re feeling less afraid than we ever have before, life throws us a wicked curve and tries to steal away our hopes and dreams. The key word here is “tries.” It’s up to us whether we let it. It’s all about attitude, attitude is everything.

Sometimes we waste so much damn time feeling sorry for ourselves or trying to figure out why things have happened rather than just pressing forward and dealing with things. The longer we stand there trying to figure things out, searching for answers to why and how it happened, the harder reaching a solution becomes. I tell you, that obstacle or situation blocking our way isn’t going anywhere by itself, we have to overcome it and make it go away. It’s up to us. Inside each and everyone of us is the power to move mountains. We just have to learn how to tap into that inner strength, believe in ourselves and have faith that God will provide.

When it comes to trials it is often said that God will never give us anymore than we can handle. I believe that. In my life I have wasted plenty of valuable time standing in front of that giant boulder that blocked my path, defeated, feeling sorry for myself, then over-thinking the situation, trying to figure a way to get over, under or around the problem instead of simply facing it head on. John Lennon once said “There are no problems, only solutions.” I choose to believe that as well…

Just a thought…
