Woo Hoo! Can you believe it? Schools out! Summer has arrived! Last Friday at 12:35 my summer vacation officially began. Eight weeks off, time to recoup, regroup and re-energize, for the fall , but hey, who wants to think about work now? Not me!
Most years I’m usually out the door and in my car by 12:36 but not this year. This year I had several last minute students to deal with and a parent who show up at my office door unannounced at 12:45. By the time I got out of there it was after one! It was so unusual that my wife even called to see what was taking me so long. She’s gotten used to me getting home by 12:50 on the last day of school. Oh well, business first, then the fun begins!
Less than two hours after I got home we were packed up and in our motor home bound for faraway places. Actually we were headed to a not so faraway place. Our destination, Bonelli Park a mere five and a half miles from home. That right, we were headed across town for two nights of camping bliss with our kids and grand kids. This is the second year that we’ve gotten together for a Father’s Day weekend getaway. Last year we went a few miles further to Prado Lake Campgrounds in Chino and we’re already talking about going to Lake Hemet next Father’s Day.
Camp Sausedo, yeah everyone had a great time! It was fun getting together for a couple of days of relaxation, laughter, bike rides, barbecues and late night campfires. We also had some great conversations as well. It was an terrific way to get summer started. And there was absolutely no drama! Everyone got along incredibly well, even the five grand kids! It was awesome!
We had all been looking forward to our getaway for quite some time. Although we see our kids and grand kids pretty often and get together now and again for birthdays, barbecues and whatever, there is still something very special about our little camping excursions. All of us together for the weekend, having fun, enjoying one another’s company, one big happy family. I’m truly blessed to be able to spend this kind of quality time with my family. I’m fortunate that our kids enjoy spending time with us. Not all parents can say that. I certainly hope we can do a little more camping this summer and look forward to doing it again next Father’s Day! It’s our new Father’s Day tradition!
Just a Thought,
